Commissioning an access control system correctly the first time is critical to long-term performance, reliability, and security.

The Inception Commissioning Checklist provides a structured, guided approach that ensures nothing is missed during setup. This reduces risk, saves time, and delivers consistent outcomes across every installation.

A Structured Path to Smarter Security Setup

The checklist is a built-in, web-based configuration wizard designed to streamline the setup of Inner Range’s Inception controller. By guiding technicians through each critical configuration step in a logical sequence, it helps ensure every system is commissioned accurately, efficiently, and in line with best practice.

Purpose and Functionality

Upon powering up the Inception controller, technicians are directed to the Commissioning Checklist directly from the web interface. From first login to final handover, the checklist provides a clear roadmap that establishes system reliability, security, and compliance from the outset.

The checklist covers essential setup tasks, including:

  • Region, language, and time zone configuration

  • Network settings and connectivity

  • Credential creation and security policies

  • Acceptance of the End User License Agreement

  • Backup and restore procedures

  • Final commissioning report generation

Each step builds logically on the previous one, ensuring the system is configured in the correct order and aligned with recommended commissioning practices.

Help Menus

Each step includes contextual help via integrated tooltip buttons, providing clear explanations and guidance exactly where it’s needed. This embedded assistance reduces the likelihood of misconfiguration and ensures even first-time installers can complete commissioning with confidence, without overlooking critical elements.

By placing guidance directly within the workflow, the checklist removes the need to reference external documentation during setup.

Efficiency With Technical Depth

The Inception Commissioning Checklist is designed to minimize installation time while maximizing accuracy and consistency. By replacing traditional manual programming with a guided, step-by-step process, it removes guesswork and standardises commissioning across sites and technicians.

Behind its simplicity, the checklist supports configuration of advanced system elements such as:

  • Core system programming

  • Custom automation rules

  • Database setup and management

  • System diagnostics and validation

For integrators and service teams, this translates into faster commissioning, fewer call-backs, and a consistent standard of delivery — particularly valuable when deploying multiple systems or onboarding new technicians.

Scalable by Design

Inception is built to scale, and the Commissioning Checklist supports deployments of all sizes.

Inception’s architecture supports:

  • Up to 1024 inputs and outputs

  • 128 doors and 256 readers

  • 250,000 offline events

The checklist approach ensures that smaller installations receive the same level of structured setup and validation as large, enterprise-scale deployments.

Resilience and Integration

Offline door expansion is supported through Intelligent LAN Access Modules (ILAMs), which synchronise with the controller and continue operating independently during network outages.

Inception also integrates with a wide range of third-party platforms via its open REST XML API, enabling interoperability with systems such as Milestone ACM, Hanwha WAVE, and Control4. Wireless locking solutions and broader ecosystem integrations further enhance flexibility across varied site requirements.

Accessible Training and Ongoing Support

Commissioning with Inception requires minimal training, with most technicians able to become proficient through a short online course. The intuitive interface, combined with embedded guidance throughout the checklist, lowers the barrier to entry for new installers while ensuring experienced technicians follow the same best practice process every time.

Inner Range supports this with comprehensive training materials, making it easy for teams to build confidence and maintain consistent deployment standards across all installations.
