Curtin University of Technology
Curtin University of Technology is Western Australia’s largest university offering over 850 different courses to over 31,000 students.
The Kalgoorlie campus wanted to allow easy access to the University buildings for staff and students while also ensuring their safety. Three IR Access 4000 panels are installed in various parts of the campus providing access control and alarm monitoring, as well as reporting to an FE100 Digital Alarm Receiver using IRFast Communications format.
Currently each faculty wants to do their own administration and uses system management software to achieve this. If in future the University wants to centralise it’s administration, then this can also easily be achieved by using Insight Professional or Enterprise to manage data across multiple Concept 3000 / Access 4000 Modules.
Equally, Curtin currently choose to keep their security system separate from their IT backbone. However in future, they can connect some or all of their Inner Range Modules to their LAN infrastructure simply by adding one or more TCP/IP UART boards.
The wide variety of courses offered by the University can run from a few days to several years and therefore users can easily be enrolled into the system and given area permissions, timezones and expiry dates. Currently, users utilise simple magnetic swipe cards as their credentials. However, if they want to adopt other reader technologies such as biometrics – this can be accommodated.
By choosing Inner Range, Curtin University have invested in a robust and scaleable security solution, with proven reliably in a truly mission critical environment.
